PASADENA- The City of Pasadena has Terminated its Red-Light Cameras

The City of Pasadena has decided to terminate its operation of its seven red-light cameras.  The city began the program in 2003 and decided not renew its contract with American Traffic Systems Inc., which ended in June 2012, citing lack of enforcement, cost-effectiveness, and questions about its effectiveness in promoting traffic safety as reasons for discontinuing the program.  Although there was a decline in collisions in the first year after the cameras were installed, transportation officials note that this may have been due to lengthening the time of yellow lights.  The program also failed to produce significant revenue and has been operating at a deficit.
